Via Brian Webber: United heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk says he won’t reveal what his game plan is for Saturday’s rematch with challenger Anthony Joshua.
Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs) plans to come into this fight heavier than his previous fight last September in which he weighed 221 lbs. At issue is whether Usyk needs to gain weight for his second bout with Joshua, given his success last time out.
The extra size Usyk put on could slow him down enough for Joshua to be able to hit more heavy hits than he did last time in London.
Usyk vows to do his best
“I realized that I had to do my job right and it would not be an easy task for me,” Oleksandr Usyk told. Sports sky.
“I won’t tell you much about my strategy,” Usyk insists. “I am a bit heavier than last time.
“I will do my best,” he insisted, “to give the best performance I can.”
“I am not a big forecaster. You will see Saturday night; I will just do my job, what I have to do,” Usyk said.
“I feel like we should be the B inside this week, the challengers, the noobs because we have nothing and we are here to take it all,” Eddie Hearn told Fight Hub. TV about Anthony Joshua coming out in rematch against beltless Usyk.
“That’s the mentality that AJ has to have in this fight. He’s ready, he’s in great shape, and I can’t wait for what I think is going to be an extremely heavy game this weekend,” Hearn said.
Good muscle fights
“We didn’t really get into the bottom card too much other than our three fights in the card, which was Filip Hrgovic against Zhilei Zhang,” Hearn continued.
“It was a final elimination for the world heavyweight title. Callum Smith against Mathieu Bauderlique, a great battle. It was the final elimination for Artur Beterbiev, and Ramla Ali, who became the first woman to fight in the Kingdom.
“Sky is very good at promoting pay per view. Time is an issue. It was announced three weeks ago, and apparently, it’s also outside the UK. AJ was here. By the time the fight goes on, I’m sure Sky will be behind the fight.
“Obviously, they have a war in the UK. DAZN is present in more than 190 countries and worldwide. There are other TV stations as well. It was a wonderful night.
“Of course, but they probably don’t want to do any media with me,” Hearn said when asked if he’s doing any media with Sky this week. “I am a promoter and I am working on this event. They are an important part of the event.
“I’ve done 30 interviews so far, and I don’t even know who 28 of them are. So I will spend all my time with everyone as always. He has to be smart and has to be more aggressive,” Hearn said when asked how Joshua was able to beat Usyk.
Aj must fight with ferocity
“He has to fight with ferocity and ferocity, and he has to deal damage to Oleksandr Usyk,” Hearn said. “He has to make sure he does that within the first six innings of the fight.
“You don’t want to go into the latter stages of this war with a new Oleksandr Usyk. It will be a very interesting match, and I believe he will win by knockout.
“Absolutely not. He loves to fight,” Hearn said when asked if Joshua would retire if he lost his rematch with Usyk. “He’s still a relative kid in terms of fighting. His is unbelievable
“We want him to be more active, but all those fights. Tyson Fury, Dillian Whyte, Deontay Wilder; There are a lot of fights in the division. Win or lose on Saturday; the story will continue.
“I don’t really care about losing at all. He has to win this weekend. If AJ signed with Sky instead of DAZN, Johnny Nelson would say that Anthony Joshua is Muhammad Ali’s second appearance.
“It is strange even to suggest that if a boxer loses the number one pound in the sport, they should hang up his gloves.
“So let’s go after him [Joshua], regardless of the store or broadcaster. Come after our little boy AJ and watch him bring it home because he gave it everything.
“He stepped up again tonight, number one in the sport. Hearn said.
Joshua had the wrong game plan
“I think he prepared well enough, but he had the wrong game plan,” Hearn said of Joshua in his first match against Usyk last September. “People told him he couldn’t write to him, so maybe he took it on himself a little bit.
“It was a bad move, and he can’t afford to do it again. This time, I want him out there before the sixth round. I want him to be in a place he never wants to go back to.
“He [Joshua] need to be renewed. Now it’s all about belief. With AJ, he has to believe in the game plan. He has to be instructed in this fight and scream if things don’t go well.
“He has to adapt quickly in this fight. Robert Garcia is a great coach. The energy and vibe in the fight camp is very good, and we are very confident about the success.
“Our advertising contract with him [Usyk] ended some time ago. But this particular fight against AJ is a one-on-one match with a rematch clause.. So the thing is, depending on what happens, aw can go on with him, win or lose. Hearn said the focus is on Anthony Joshua.
Hearn doesn’t want Usyk to win
“I don’t want to be, ‘Come on, Oleksandr Usyk. Whatever happens over the weekend, we’ll talk. ‘ F*** that. I just want an AJ win by all means necessary,” Hearn said.
“I have no interest in seeing Oleksandr Usyk win this match. I’ll worry about that later because I’ll be sniping if I’m even thinking about it,” Hearn said of Usyk going to be one of the most lucrative freestyle agents in the sport if he He won on Saturday.
“Honestly, I didn’t think about it at all. If he wins and we have a downstream conversation then no problem. But I don’t want Oleksandr Usyk to win this fight,” Hearn said.
