Vin Diesel compares Fast & Furious to Lord of the Rings

Actor Vin Diesel commented and compared his Fast & Furious series to JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. Talk to DiversityDiesel said expanding the “mythology” of the Fast & Furious franchise has become difficult, unlike how Diesel believes Tolkien must have had trouble expanding the Lord of the Rings universe.

“You know what gets harder? Off-screen work. Thinking, expanding… there’s a reason Tolkien stopped writing after a while,” Diesel said (via DigitalSpy). “Because it’s hard to continue the myth. No one thought of it in that context, but it’s real.”

The interviewer called Fast & Furious the “Lord of the Rings action movie” and Diesel concurred with this. “Well said, from mouth to ear of God, it’s so true.”

Then Diesel impersonated a British accent and said, posing as Tolkien, “I should have stopped after The Hobbit.” You really need to hear that audio–check out the audio above.

Diesel was said to have auditioned for the role of Aragorn in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings series, but Stuart Towsend got the role. Then, after filming began, Townsend was fired and Viggo Mortensen was hired into what became a career-defining role.

Diesel will star in Fast X in 2023, here it is the beginning of the end for the massively popular series. The The latest trailer for Fast X is out now and it shows Jason Momoa’s villain and more.
