Viola Davis has attained EGOT . status

Viola Davis brought home 2023 foreign league for Best Book Recording, Narrative, and Storytelling, making her the latest artist to achieve EGOT status. That is, someone who has won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony Award.
The only female nominee in her category, Davis beat out Jamie Foxx, Mel Brooks, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Questlove to win the Grammy Award for her memoir find me. This is also her first Grammy nomination.
In previous years, Davis was awarded an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for How to get away with murder?, ONE Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress IN fenceand two Tony Awards: Best Actress in a Play for King Hedley IIand Best Actress in a Play for fence.
“I wrote this book in honor of six-year-old Viola,” Davis said in her brief acceptance speech. “To honor her, her life, her joy, her trauma, everything. And that’s just such a journey. I’m just ME!”
Davis’ achievement can feel particularly gratifying after her film Queen didn’t get an Oscar nomination this year, a move many consider an obvious snob(Opens in a new window). untilanother Black story with Black creations, also missing out on nominations, with both films rekindling the conversation about the lack of diversity of the Academy Awards.
This Grammy award makes Davis the 18th person to achieve EGOT, after Jennifer Hudson(Opens in a new window) in 2022.
