Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk thinks Manchester City have been “lucky” in the race to the Premier League title.

While the Red Devils have dropped points in recent weeks, Man City have plowed relentlessly and have created a significant gap between them and the chasing group.

When assessing the festive period, Van Dijk thinks that luck has gone against the Red Devils and in favor of the defending champions.

“The city has had a particularly good December,” he said. “They have less injuries and fewer corona cases and that helps a lot.

Krawietz discusses the possibilities of January

Liverpool assistant manager Peter Krawietz had a press conference ahead of Shrewsbury on Saturday with Klopp and Pep Lijnders both in isolation after returning to Covid-19 testing positive.

He was asked about a possible debut in January, with the Red Devils without Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita due to commitments to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Krawietz said the club are not actively looking for any deals, but they will be wary of any prospect that could materialize.

“This is a long-term decision, we consider the situation as it is,” he said. “So we’ve known about the AFCON situation for a few months. Hopefully they (Salah and Mane) will be successful.

“Covid is like that, if a response is needed we will discuss it. A club decision.”
