Volkswagen, Bosch’s partner for industrial production of EV battery cells

Volkswagen and Bosch signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) as the companies aim to industrialize the battery cell manufacturing process. Through it, the companies are planning to set up a project unit to explore the possibilities of industrial-scale solutions for battery production in Europe.

Both plan to provide integrated battery manufacturing systems along with on-site maintenance and upgrade support to battery cell and system manufacturers as well as the entire range of processes and components required. required for large-scale battery and system production.

Brands are aiming to mass produce sustainable batteries and the latest technology. By following a local manufacturing approach, the move is also a step towards achieving carbon neutrality. Volkswagen also claims that the partnership will also help the automaker advance its goals for electric mobility.

Thomas Schmall, Volkswagen Group Board Member for Technology, says there is strong growing demand for all areas of battery production, including new gigafactories. “Volkswagen and Bosch will explore opportunities to grow and shape this novel billion-euro industry in Europe. Our decision to actively participate in the vertical integration of the battery manufacturing value chain will exploit significant new sources of profit. The goal of establishing a fully localized European supply chain for e-mobiles made in Europe certainly marks a rare opportunity in the history of business, Schmall adds.
