NEW DELHI: Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot on Friday confirmed that he will run for the party’s top seat in Conference‘presidential elections scheduled for October.
“I have decided to run for the presidency of the National Assembly. I will soon set a date to submit my nomination. That is the demand. Opposition he told the ANI news agency.
Gehlot added that he asked the member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi accept the offer of all those who want to compete for the presidency of the party.
He also made it clear that no one from the Gandhi family should become the next president of parliament.
Gehlot’s statement came a day after Parliament released a schedule for the upcoming presidential election.
Describing the position of parliament speaker as an “ideological position”, Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said the position “represents a collection of Indian ideas, belief systems and visions”. .
Rahul Gandhi is unlikely to stand for the presidential election scheduled to be held on October 17. The results will be announced on October 19.
