Yoko Taro Says New Nier Could Come “Tomorrow” or “35 Years From Now”

Nier writer-director Yoko Taro isn’t afraid to give fans trivia, and the recent Nier History video from the Game Maker’s Notebook podcast is no different. At the end of that video, Yoko Taro said that he would do “anything for the money” and that the next Nier game could be out tomorrow or perhaps 35 years from now.
Interviewer Shuhei Yoshida then pushed Yoko on the subject, asking him if he was taking on a “less hands-on” role in his current projects, as the creative director. Creator Nier replied that he didn’t directly direct those projects, because he felt that the games could be made better if “this older man only vaguely associates , loose with them.” Those games include the Voice of Cards series, among others.
As with everything Yoko Taro does, there’s definitely an element of creative performance here – you’d expect no less from a man wearing a giant new mask in all his public appearances. . However, his personality matches the Nier series, famous for its thorny puzzle-box plot and numerous secrets. Back in 2021, the great game hacker Lance McDonald found a cheat code allows you to jump to the end of Nier Automata, which has been hidden for years. Last year, some innovative Automata modders convinced many fans that a random player had discovered an extremely hidden secret area in the game by accident.
