Boxing legend Felix “Tito” Trinidad joined WBA Welterweight world champion Yordenis Ugas for a virtual press conference Monday as the boxers discussed their journey to boxing glory and previewed the clash. Ugas’ upcoming welterweight championship unification with WBC and IBF champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. takes place on Saturday, April 16 live on SHOWTIME PPV from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas with the headline of a Premier Boxing Champions event.
The virtual chat was hosted by SHOWTIME boxing analyst and former world champion Raúl “El Diamante” Márquez.
Ticket for the April 16 live event at AT&T Stadium, promoted by the TGB Promotion and the Man Down Promotion, is now on sale and can be purchased at SeatGeek.com, the Principal Ticket Provider of AT&T Stadium.
Just the 12th unification match in the welterweight division’s rich history, Spence vs. Ugas will take part in other classic unification fights in the weight division such as “Sugar” Ray Leonard vs. Thomas Hearns I and Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao. Ugas will join Trinidad in the list of unified welterweight champions, as Trinidad unifies the 147-pound belt in a 1999 victory over Oscar De La Hoya.
“I remember watching Felix when I was a teenager and he was fighting against De La Hoya. Everyone in Cuba talks about it. That fight really got me thinking. It was amazing to watch Felix go up against Oscar. Seeing Felix achieve something incredible is a great source of inspiration.
“Ismael Salas is one of the best coaches in the world. When I wasn’t athletic for more than two years, I went to the gym with him and he built me back into what I am now. He’s been a huge influence in my boxing career and he’s helped me reach the heights I’ve been able to reach.
“I love my country, but I also always ask for a free Cuba because I want a better future for the country that I represent and love with all my heart.
“I did my job before Manny Pacquiao. I fought before 11 days. Whatever Spence says about what he’s going to do with Pacquiao, I don’t care. I just focused on the challenge I faced with Spence.
“I had to leave Cuba on a speedboat, not knowing if I would see my family again. I haven’t seen them in almost a decade. I had to go through everything on my own. Not only professionally, but personally I have to overcome a lot of things.
“I am a competitor, I will give my best in any decade. I enjoyed fighting Trinidad and the other warriors of his time. I may win, I may lose, but I would love to face those challenges.
“It has been a dream come true to be here talking to one of my idols in Felix Trinidad. It’s really great. I am very grateful to be in this position. ”

“When I watched the match against Manny Pacquiao, I watched Ugas represent Cuba in an incredible way. I believe Ugas can emulate what he did to Pacquiao in the fight against Spence. His speed and accuracy will amaze the crowd in this fight.
“This will be a fight of a champion against a champion. When I fought De La Hoya, I knew that I had to give my all and couldn’t leave anything in the tank. I believe in Ugas and I believe he will make us all proud.
“Errol is a large, hunting dog. Instead of trying to work against their right hand, I’d rather have a male hitter throw their biggest hit and dodge it, so I can deliver my biggest hit. I want to tell Ugas to let Spence throw that left hand and dodge it.
“I am fortunate to be a Puerto Rican and a citizen of the United States, where I have always been able to feel the support of my family throughout my career. I had a very tight circle of trust and that helped me a lot.
“Ugas’ best attributes are the ones that are most similar to mine. It is conditional and psychological. He takes what he does in training and uses it in combat very well. He brought that preparation into the ring just like I did. That makes me believe in him and I know he will do well.
“I will tell Ugas to stay close and act offensively. Instead, don’t let Spence get to you. Jab with right and uppercut with left is the best combination that will work for you.
“I have had a great career with a lot of memorable experiences and great battles. I’m focusing on my family right now and this is a chapter I’ve come to cherish. I’m very satisfied with the life I’m living right now.”
