It’s official – Hunter x Hunter manga is finally back. The Shonen Jump twitter The account posted news that Episode 37 will premiere on November 4 in Japan. There’s no word on when the series will be released outside, but Polygon has reached out to Viz Media to confirm.
There are no updates for Hunter x Hunter story since 2018. Due to frequent and serious health problems, author Yoshihiro Togashio has had to frequently pause his work. But back in May, he created a Twitter account, where he started posting updates about his work. Most of it is a simple page number that doesn’t reveal much about the upcoming episode, although he did tweet a few more finished drawings and sketches.
The manga started in 1998, and has two anime series based on it. Hunter x Hunter takes place in a world where licensed professionals called Hunters embark on fantastical adventures, such as subjugating dangerous monsters, hunting criminals, or hunting for treasure. A young and incredibly talented boy named Gon enters the Hunter Exam to find his distant father, a legendary Hunter who abandoned him as a child. Along the way, Gon meets Killua, the fugitive heir to a notorious family of assassins; Kurapika, the sole survivor of a brutal genocide seeking revenge; and Leorio, who wants to be a doctor.
The current manga volumes have revolved around Kurapika’s revenge journey. As a current member of the Zodiacs – essentially the governing body of the Hunters Association – Kurapika joined a dangerous expedition to an unknown continent. He works as a bodyguard for a little princess and is navigating the royal family’s brutal battle for succession. Leorio was there too, but he was working on Med Bay and unfortunately we didn’t see much of him.
While you wait for the much-anticipated update, check out the 2011 series – much of the manga, save for the current season – on Crunchyroll.
